MCS Automation awarded contract to expand RFID Baggage Tracking system at Newark Liberty International Airport

MCS Automation has begun work on a project that will significantly expand an RFID Baggage Tracking pilot program that was completed in January 2016. The expansion project will add 37 Read Points to the Outbound Baggage Systems in-service at Newark Liberty International Airports’ Terminal B. The previous pilot program has been in operation for over a year and has added tremendous value to the airports operation by offering increased visibility into a checked bags chain-of-custody and path of travel on the BHS, once it’s surrendered by a passenger at the ticket counter. The expansion project is on track to be completed in Q4 2017 and when complete, will provide a total of 43 Read Points across 8 Outbound Baggage Systems at Terminal B, and is part of EWR’s operational strategy to become compliant with IATA Resolution 753 .

MCS Automation is providing a full service Turn-Key solution that encompasses not only the Electrical and Hardware design, but also the Electrical Installation, Panel Build, Programming, Integration with all existing BHS Systems, an Upper Level Data Collection and Reporting platform, and a BRS Interface. When it came to choosing a hardware platform, MCS looked to it’s partners at Impinj and Rockwell Automation to provide best-in-class hardware platforms to build upon.
